Valentine's Day

/ˈvælɪntaɪnz deɪ/
/ˈvælɛntaɪnz deɪ/
IPA guide

Valentine's Day is the romantic holiday observed on February 14. If you've been wanting to send a love note, a red rose, or candy hearts to your secret crush, Valentine's Day is the perfect day to do it.

What is now a commercial holiday that involves buying cards, chocolates, flowers, and gifts began as a Christian feast day honoring Saint Valentine. The history is muddled, as there are several saints by this name, as well as ancient Roman celebrations of love and fertility traditionally held in February. In the 14th century, the custom of "choosing a sweetheart" on February 14 began. Today, it's also a perfect opportunity to tell your friends how much you love and appreciate them!
